Harlan Ellison

The shock jock of the 60s, Harlan Ellison wears the short story crown in such genres as science fiction, fantasy, and mystery. . He also became an essayist and columnist of some renown and wrote dozens of screenplays for both television and movies.

Ellison, born in Ohio in 1934, is also a highly decorated writer. He's won 8 Hugos, 3 Nebulas, 6 Bram Stoker Awards, 2 Edgar Allen Poe Awards, 2 Georges Melies fantasy film awards, 2 Audie Awards, the Silver P.E.N. award, a Living Legend Award, and 4 Most Outstanding Teleplay Awards from the Writers Guild of America, a World Fantasy Award, a British Fantasy Award, the American Mystery Award, a Ray Bradbury Award, and a Words, Wit & Wisdom Award.

In addition to his writing, Ellison has a number of voice acting credits to his name and is a member of the Screen Actors Guild. He's worked as a creative consultant for such shows as The Twilight Zone and Babylon 5.

While it would seem that a man who has written or edited more than 75 books, 1700 stories, two dozen teleplays, and a dozen movies would have time for little else, Ellison has led an adventurous and storied life. He traveled with The Rolling Stones as research for a book, he marched with Martin Luther King Jr., successfully sued Paramount for plagiarism, and had a face-off with the son of a Mafioso. The son had a Remington XP-100. Ellison had a towel (and nothing else).
