Carl Hiaasen
Carl Hiaasen began his professional writing career as a reporter-eventually joining the award-winning investigations team of the Miami
Herald.
It was from there he launched into a career of novel writing that has had both adults and young people laughing until they cried.
Hiaasen was born in South Florida and has spent most of his life there. He attended Emory University and then got a degree in journalism from the University of Florida in 1974. He collaborated with a fellow Herald reporter to produce three crime novels.
In the 80s, he wrote his first solo novel, Tourist Season, a book that GQ would call one of the top ten destination reads of all times. His first juvenile novel won a Newbery Award.
While his novels have become bestsellers, Hiaasen continues to write a regular column for the Miami Herald.
