Margaret Maron
A founding member of Sisters in Crime, Margaret Maron took the mystery field by storm. She's been nominated for every major mystery award and has a host of winnings to her credit, including Edgars, Anthonys, Agathas, and Macavity. Her novel The Bootlegger's Daughter was the first time any single novel won all four of those awards.
Maron was born in North Carolina. While attending college and working for the Pentagon, she met a naval officer. She dropped out of school to marry him and traveled with him to New York, Paris, and then back to North Carolina.
She began writing short stories and poetry. It wasn't until the last 70s that she decided to try her hand at novel writing.
