Ellis Peters

Edith Pargeter, under the pen name Ellis Peters, was a prolific author who is perhaps best-known for her Brother Cadfael medieval mystery series. However, she also wrote contemporary mysteries such as the Inspector Felse series, current affaris novels, historical novels, and translations of Czech classics into English.
Pargeter was born on September 28, 1913 in Shropshire. She worked for a time as a chemist's assistant until the outbreak of World War II. She joined the Women's Royal Navy Science and earned a medal in 1944. She died in 1995 at age 82.
She wrote 21 Brother Cadfael mysteries and 13 George Felse novels.
