Jodi Picoult
Born in 1966 and raised in Long Island, Jodi Picoult draws upon a happy childhood and a solid family in her novels, novels that explore family and identity.
Picoult studied writing at Princeton and had two short stories published in Seventeen while a student.
However, fiction writing wouldn't immediately pay the bills, so she took jobs as a technical writer, ad writer, textbook editor, and 8th grade English teacher before going to Harvard for a master's degree.
It was during her pregnancy that she finally sat down to write her first novel. Eleven novels and a New England Book Award for fiction later, she'll say that she only moonlights as a writer, her real job is mom to her three children. However, since her husband became a stay-at-home dad, she's been able to devote more time to writing while he takes care of the car pooling, lunches, and practices.
