Chamber of Secrets - Harry Potter II - Who let the dogs or something out?

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

Harry has been warned. He must not return to Hogwarts School for Wizards, because danger is waiting for him. The only other option is to remain with the relatives (aunt, uncle, and cousin Dudley) who hate Harry's magic-making guts. So, it's back to school and to heck with the dangers.

Chamber of Secrets is the second in the 5 book series by J.K. Rowling featuring the most famous wizard in the world — Harry Potter. Though you can read part II without reading part I, you're missing out on the background. It's simply more fun to grow up with a character and to know all the back-when data.

Getting ready to go back to school can be hectic for any kid, but Harry is no ordinary kid, and he's not headed to an ordinary school. When he and the Weasley boys miss the train, they fly a Muggle (non-wizard) car and end up crashing on the front lawn. This is not a good start to the school year, and it just gets worse.

Something has been set loose from the Chamber of Secrets at Hogworts, and no one knows who set it loose or even what this evil monster looks like. Well, a couple of people did glimpse the demon, but they froze solid like pillars of salt and must wait for a magic potion to perk before being set free from the diabolical spell.

Students are in luck, because the master of fighting the dark side and the author of numerous books on the subject just happens to be a new teacher at the school. Well, that should be good luck, but it isn't. Seem the good professor is more interested in his hair and getting airtime than in fighting evil. In fact, it appears that the expert knows very little if anything about battling.

With students hanging in frozen limbo and with the school in danger of shutting down, Harry and his buddy Ron set out to solve the mystery and to find and defeat the thing that has no name that is hiding somewhere at Hogworts. This is against the rules, but the rules go out the windows as the doors to the school seem sure to be locked tight and the kids sent back home.

If you love an action packed story that keeps you on the edge of your bed with a flashlight so that everyone else can go on to sleep, then this is the book you want to pick up. Dig in on the series and have a rip roaring magical time in a world where what you think may not be what happens.

Though the Harry Potter series was marketed to kids, they are books that appeal to all ages from about 4th grade up. They are pretty easy reads but the story is complex with all kinds of surprises that stun and delight.
