Marc Simont

Marc Simont has brought more than 100 children's books to life with his drawings and paintings. In 1997, the Professional Association of Illustrators named him Illustrator of the year.

Born in 1915 in Paris, France, Marc Simont is the son of an artist and illustrator. He spent half of his childhood in Europe and half in the United States. In 1935, Simont settled in the United States and began illustrating children's books, eventually working for such authors as James Thurber and Margaret Wise Brown.

Simont has twice won Caldecott Book Honors, in 1950 for Ruth Krauss' The Happy Day and in 1957 for Janice May Udry's A Tree is Nice. In 2002, he won a Caldecott Honor for a book he wrote and illustrated, The Stray Dog.
